Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) is an opt-in based law. It’s built around the basic idea that you should only send emails to people that asks to receive them.
What does this mean for your New/Mode campaign? Most organizations using New/Mode's campaign tools elect to keep action takers informed on various issues. Most organizations also integrate New/Mode tools with a CRM. If this applies to you then you should set up an E-Mail Opt-In check box that gives supporters the choice of opting in or out of future emails.
Follow the instructions below if you'd like to set up the Email Opt-In component.
Step 1: Under the Edit tab for the campaign tool you're setting up, navigate to Advanced > Components:
Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom of your list of components, and add a new component. Label the component and choose Select Options from the drop down. Click Add:
Step 3: You'll be taken to the Edit Component screen. Scroll down to Options. Fill in the Opt-In/Opt-Out choices (Yes and/or No) you want the supporters to take. See the below image for an example:
Step 4: You can either Save Component as is, or pre-check an opt-in choice for your supporters by selecting the radio button beside the option you want pre-checked:
You can also change the radio buttons to a checkbox. This will allow your supporters to select multiple options. To do this, select the Multiple checkbox:
Step 5: Click the friendly blue Save Component button at the bottom of the page. You'll be taken to your campaign tool preview page, where you can check out the look and placement of your new Opt-in component:
To change the placement of your Opt-in Component on a campaign tool, go back to the Advanced tab and rearrange components.
